Landscape scenes, like the one handpainted on this stout jar, once captured the beauty and romance of elaborate Chinese gardens. In the 16th century, the beloved blue and white pottery made in Jingdezhen, China was exported to Europe and became a widespread household item in homes of the upper class. The origins of blue and white pottery, however, are rooted in Persian history, making its way down the Silk Road into China. This jar retains the same elegance as an original with a variety of birds, flora, and even a couple butterflies. Since each one is made by an artisan, completely by hand, every one we get will be a little different from the other. Watertight. For decorative use only.
