Is your curiosity piqued? The cabinet of curiosities became a popular trend in Europe during the 17th century. Originally it was a display room used to showcase found items and relics in a specific genre or study, such as biology, nature, or art. As the trend trickled down to the lower class, curiosities became smaller and more distinct.
This vintage dome and its contents come from a 19th-century cabinet in Europe. It holds several surgical instruments or "instruments chirurgicaux," as the French call it, pieces that probably aroused the original owner's, well, curiosity!
