Sometimes called Phulkaris, vintage, handmade wedding shawls like this were once draped over a bride during the wedding ceremony. The craft originated in what is now Northern India and Pakistan, where each tapestry was embroidered and stitched together by hand. Phulkari means "flower making," and is also the name for this embroidery technique. Due to its age and use this shawl has discoloration and flaws in its silk designs that we like to think add to its authenticity.
