  • Hand woven by the Kuba people
  • Each piece is unique
  • Bold, graphic design

The Kuba people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo hand-weave strips of raffia cloth (woven fibers from the raffia-palm leaves) to drape around themselves at celebrations. Our African friend brought these beauties over from his country to share them with us. Each square takes days to complete. The raffia is dyed with natural substances (like plants) and handwoven, and the designs have various meanings. We have turned these coarsely textured cloths into modern-day pillows. Each varies in size, pattern, and color.

Each pillowcase comes stuffed with a nonallergenic polyfill insert, which have the same texture as down.

Gorgeous Cushions

I have two of these Kuba cloth pillows. I use them as back cushions on two Chinese ox bow chairs. They are stunning. Very chic and great counterpoint to my collection of African art.

regrettable variation in quality as cushions are beautiful

I ordered 3 of these pillows on 2 separate orders. On one the stitching is good quality and the pillow is beautiful. On the other two the stitching is very poor - large clumsy tacks and loose threads. I have had them barely a month in a weekend house with 2 adults and no animals and the fabric pattern is coming apart. I love the look and am hoping to replace them but only if I can get the well finished version.
