I love the product, however it is much darker than pictured. The one I received came covered in a dark, almost black wax like finish. I washed it by hand and realized the unique shape was not caused by hand carving, rather by prices added. The patch on the rim made the item less than circular. There are visible nails, 4 at least, the wood used for the patch is a different kind, and there is a considerable amount of glue or wood filler used. I wish it was more like the item pictured. I do like the item but am very disappointed in the quality of the item.

Plates like this one are used in India to prepare the ingredients to make chapati, an unleavened flatbread made of flour and water traditionally cooked over an open flame. Our hand-carved wooden version makes a lovely centerpiece, full of candles, fruit, or anything you'd like to display. Each piece is like a unique artifact varying in size and shape, some with noticeable cracks that give it a vintage look and feel. Not food safe.
A vintage platter traditionally used in India to prepare the ingredients for making chapati, this Wooden Parat delivers a worldly touch to a space. Each piece is unique, so it varies in size and shape. Not food safe.
