FCS Urban Ministries - July 2009

FCS Urban Ministries is a Christian community development organization that partners with declining inner-city neighborhoods to bring about social, economic, and spiritual rebirth. It is an incubator for visionaries and social entrepreneurs, transforming distressed urban neighborhoods through Christian community development. Their mission is to create healthy places in the city where families flourish and the Shalom of God is present. Since 1976, FCS (as it is now known) has grown to become a multifaceted community development organization, experimenting with "gentrification with justice" and strategic "re-neighboring," concepts that place a framework around urban development in order to foster communities that are real, sustainable, even restorative.

FCS celebrates 30 years of learning in the heart of urban Atlanta, reweaving the fabric of urban community by building upon neighborhood strength and by attracting "strategic neighbors" to move in. With an emphasis on neighborhood leadership and a commitment to mixed-income housing development, its strategy yields both social and spiritual vitality as well as economic viability.

As an urban collective, FCS currently has thirteen diverse organizations that work together within one distressed, yet beautiful urban neighborhood. Each FCS group brings a niche to the table, sharing resources to provide a wide range of services, including affordable housing through a foreclosure redemption strategy, creation care, youth development through summer camps, movement and dance, empowering senior citizens, creative philanthropy, and connecting neighbors and communities across race and class lines.

FCS is currently seeking partners and donors to consider sponsoring one of our 50 foreclosure rehabs up to $30,000 per home. They often find themselves saying, "What some meant for mortgage fraud, God meant for good." Please consider partnering with FCS to see a historic community thrive again, where the workforce and wealthy, poor and privileged live and work side-by-side, a community where children and elderly are living with joy in a wholesome environment.
