Considered the rarest group of butterflies in the world, Birdwing butterflies are often large and brightly colored, making them an impressive sight to see. Queen Alexandra’s Birdwings, the largest known butterfly (and insect) in the world, can grow to almost 1 foot – larger than many birds! The term “Birdwing” is derived from the Latin name “Ornithoptera” (one of the three genera that comprise this group of butterflies). Like birds, Birdwing butterflies are typically seen flying over rainforest canopies rather than through them.

Gold: 24.5"sq.; Lancaster: 24"sq.; White: 26"sq.
