Tub chairs have been quite popular since the 18th century thanks to their supreme comfort. Before this design entered the scene, most lounge chairs were repurposed dining chairs, which don't usually lend themselves to long periods of relaxation. Although there is no record of who first invented the tub chair, we do know that one of the first pieces in this style debuted at the courts of King Louis XV of France. The king would sit in this comfortable chair while he held court, which sometimes lasted for hours. His subjects, unfortunately, were left to choose less desirable seats. The tub chair was truly a fixture of royalty.
