Known for its blue-green glaze, celadon pottery was first crafted and exported from China during the Tang Dynasty (618 AD–907 AD). It was popular both for its beauty and because of its close resemblance to jade. During that time, superstition surrounded celadon – it was believed that a celadon dish would break or change color if poisoned food were put upon it. Today, the original techniques are still used to create new pieces, with advances in technology allowing artisans to fine-tune the color of each design before firing.
